“…Because AAFCS is currently bringing the focus on technology with announcements of special themes and journal issues (http://AAFCS.org/), it is becoming more evident that information regarding technology in the field is essential. From the empirical analysis of Goldsmith (1983), to the more specific research of Oliver and Mahoney (1991) and Lakner, Paff, and Din (1997), to more current research such as this study, it is more than evident that these types of examinations are becoming a popular method to investigate the role of the field within the greater research world.…”

Until the comprehensive empirical analysis done by Goldsmith (1983) to examine the nature and scope of, at that time, the Home Economics Research Journal, as well as the more topical analyses by Oliver and Mahoney (1991) and Lakner, Paff, and Md Din (1997), FCS was lacking in overall analysis and record of its content and progress concerning research. As Goldsmith (1983) stated, the value and need for these types of analyses can be beneficial in describing the overall scope and progress of the field, as well as provide a comprehensive view of the scholarly activity within it (Goldsmith, 1983;Lakner et al, 1997).…”

“…Although coauthorship in C&T research has also increased (Oliver & Mahoney, 1991;Reeves-DeArmond, Ogle, & Tremblay, 2011), little, if any, attention has focused on practices, motivation, and ethical applications. We were unable to find any studies on coauthorship within the C&T discipline.…”
