Evidence presented by Heiman and Tighe (1942) indicates that the chicks from a cross of Barred Plymouth Rock males on Rhode Island Red females require somewhat more vitamin D than do White Leghorns, but these authors interpreted the results as showing no practical difference. Olsson (1941) reports that Rhode Island Red Chicks require 2.6 times as much vitamin D in the feed as do White Leghorn chicks to achieve the same degree of bone calcification.…”
