“…The polymer load can affect the thickness of the composite [49][50][51][52], its light absorp- Examples of ex situ processes are mixing the catalyst with a polymer and the hydrothermal process, which are illustrated in Figure 2c,d. During the direct mixing of the polymer with the catalyst nanoparticles, the polymer will cover the surface of the catalyst [45].…”

“…Polyaniline (PANI) is a narrow band-gap polymer and by coupling with ZnO, it was possible to modulate the band-gap energy and enhance the absorption capacity for sunlight. 31,32 With a narrower band gap than ZnO, a wider range of light (ultraviolet light and visible light) can be utilized in the ZnO/ PANI nanocomposite system. In addition, PANI as a conductive polymer is not soluble in water.…”

“…Metronidazole (MNZ) is a synthetic antibacterial agent, known for its non-biodegradability and high solubility in water, therefore its removal from the wastewaters before being discharged into the environment has gained important attention. Very recently, Asgari et al [99] investigated the photocatalytic potential of ZnO/PANI nanocomposites for the degradation of MNZ under UV and visible light irradiation. They established that the degradation rate of MNZ by the ZnO/PANI nanocomposite (k = 2.53 × 10 −2 min −1 ) was almost 63 times higher than for the pure ZnO photocatalyst (k = 0.04 × 10 −2 min −1 ) and proposed a diagram for the photocatalytic mechanism of this system ( Figure 6).…”
