Abstract:Protein Energy Malnutrition (PEM) is insufficient animal or vegetable protein consumption in daily food. PEM can result in damage to intestinal cells, which causes villous atrophy, decreased crypt depth, and a decrease in the number of epithelial cells, which results in failure to absorb nutrients.
