The complete mitochondrial genome of Gyrodactylus gurleyi (Platyhelminthes: Monogenea)

Abstract: Gyrodactylus gurleyi , was inhabited on the fins and gills of goldfish ( Carassius auratus ), which belonged to the family Gyrodactylidae. In this study, we sequenced the complete mitochondrial genome of G. gurleyi with the total length of 14 771 bp. The mitogenome contained 12 protein-coding genes (PCGs), 22 tRNA genes, two rRNA genes and two major non-coding regions (NC1 and NC2). The overall AT content was 72.1%. In phylogenetic analysis, … Show more

“…1 ). The LNCR of L. longipenis (1993 bp) was the longest among the monogeneans characterized so far [ 4 , 7 , 16 , 19 , 20 , 50 , 51 , 59 67 ]. The A+T content of both LNCRs ( L. longipenis = 93.8%, L. spari = 92.5%) was much higher than in other parts of the mitogenomes (Table 2 ).…”

“…So far only nine gyrodactylid [ 21 , 30 36 ] and two dactylogyrid [ 37 , 38 ] monogenean mitogenomes have been published. Our study substantially increases the quantity of available mitogenomic data on these two most diverse monogenean families, by one-third, and offers the first mitogenomes from African representatives.…”

“…To situate the African monogeneans under study within their respective families, the PCGs and rRNA genes of all available dactylogyrid [ 37 , 38 ] and gyrodactylid [ 21 , 30 36 ] mitogenomes were included in phylogenetic analyses. The species of Capsalidae for which mitogenomes are available [ 69 , 100 , 101 ] were also included as they strongly cluster with the dactylogyrids [ 21 , 38 ].…”
