“…Supporting data included distribution maps, population status, habitats, life history, use and trade, threats, and conservation measures. Ten Red List workshops held between 2009 and 2013 facilitated global assessments for about 1000 shorefishes, with the participation of local and regional experts in fish taxonomy, biology, populations, and potential anthropogenic threats (Linardich et al, ). Two additional workshops attended by 22 experts in 2014 (Corpus Christi, Texas, USA) and 15 experts in 2015 (Mérida, Yucatán, Mexico) completed regional assessments for 940 Gulf of Mexico shorefishes.…”

“…The uncertainty caused by species assessed as DD restricts our understanding of threat patterns (Bland, Collen, Orme, & Bielby, 2012). For example, Venezuela has an overall high DD richness, with at least six DD species that have ranges mostly restricted to that country; therefore, Venezuela may be an undetected area of high threatened species richness (Linardich et al, 2017).…”

“…Es así que peces comunes en sitios arrecifales someros, tales como Thalassoma bifasciatum, Gramma loreto o Stegastes partitus, son algunas de las presas más importantes del invasor (Acero P, datos inéditos). Interesantemente, el más reciente informe de la IUCN sobre los peces amenazados incluye como vulnerables a ocho especies del género Coryphopterus (Linardich, et al, 2017), pequeños gobis comunes en los fondos someros, y una de las presas favoritas del depredador invasor. …”

“…An example is the Nassau grouper (Epinephelus striatus), which is a species of grouper similar to the Red Hind, which is now one of the species that is listed in the IUCN red list as 'Endangered' due to the overfishing of their SPAGs throughout the Caribbean (Cornish & Eklund 2003;Sadovy de Mitcheson et al 2008). Proper management and protection of SPAGs is essential to help guard fish species from overfishing (Linardich et al 2017;de la Guarda et al 2018). Uncontrolled fishing on SPAGs can totally disrupt reproduction, lead to a loss of the SPAGs and a decline and endangerment of the species concerned.…”
