“…The ratio between 239C240 Pu and 241 Am activities for S 5 sample of 0:224 G 0:044 is somewhat lower than the global fallout ratio of about 0.3 (UNSCEAR, 1993) and significantly lower than the present Chernobyl ratio of about 1.5. Such ratio for Chernobyl fallout can be calculated including americium ingrown from 241 Pu decay (Kudryashov et al, 2001). Our result suggests that americium is transferred or accumulated in bones perhaps less effectively than plutonium, possibly due to a shorter biological half-life time of Am.…”

“…Some kind of verification of the possible impact of Chernobyl fallout in investigated samples can be done by an analysis of 241 Am/ 239+240 Pu ratios. For the global fallout this ratio equals roughly 0.4, while for Chernobyl fallout is much higher, finally close to 3:1 [ 25 ]. In particular, elevated values of isotopic ratios were found in the upper layer of profile 1 and 6 and in the lower layers of the profile 10.…”

“…Again they are higher for NE areas then for S, where the average is close to the global fallout value for this ratio equal 16 to about 0.3. The present Chernobyl ratio 17 (including 241 Am ingrown from 241 Pu decay) is about 1.5, so it is a much higher value than found in NE samples. The difference in activities ratios between samples from S and NE location, as discussed here, can be seen, but only a possible very weak activity ratio increasing with time tendency for 241 Am to 2391240 Pu was suggested for samples from Białowiez ˙a forest.…”
