Abstract:Chromatin modifications provide a substrate for epigenetic variation with evolutionary potential. To quantify the contribution of this layer of variation to evolution we leveraged genome and methylome sequencing data from an incipient avian species: all-black carrion crows, grey-coated hooded crows and their hybrids. Combining controlled experimentation under common garden conditions and sampling of natural genetic variation across the hybrid zone we show that 5mC methylation variation was almost exclusively e… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
