“…Furthermore, in order to evaluate SPJ technology applied to the possibility of actual wastewater treatment. The energy consumption ( E C ) was calculated on the basis of TOC reduction: where E C is the energy consumption (in kWh · kgTOC −1 ), U the arc voltage in V, I the arc current in A, t the time of treatment of SPJ in h, TOC 0 and TOC t are the TOC in mg · L −1 at times 0 and t (h), and V is the volume of wastewater in L. In our experiment, the energy consumption ( E C ) is 78.9 kWh · kgTOC −1 for the initial concentration phenol of 50.0 g · L −1 and 80 min SPJ treatment, which maybe a drawback that limits SPJ technique wide application for various types of organic wastewater treatment,39–42 comparing with other available technologies (e.g., biological processes). However, for refractory and high concentration toxic organic wastewater treatment, SPJ technique is still a promising and powerful technology.…”

“…In contrast, the cost calculation for two important oxidation processes, ozonation and Fenton reaction in a laboratory and pilot scale have been presented. This investigation showed Fenton reagent treatment was more expensive when compared to ozonation that is due to additional chemical cost for adjusting pH value of Fenton process (Krichevskaya et al 2011). Chang et al (2008) took into account chemical and economic indicators for ozonation experiment.…”

“…Ozonation can be applied for removal of pharmaceuticals from water [11], but the high cost of ozone makes this method economically unviable [12] [13] [14]. The necessity for the novel water treatment methods is thus clear.…”
