The Cost of Materials for Intra-Arterial Thrombectomy

Abstract: This paper reports the cost of endovascular materials used for the treatment of large-vessel ischemic stroke in the anterior circulation according to the angiographic score and clinical results at three months. From November 2009 to July 2011, 57 ischemic patients (mean age, 64.6 ±13.8 years) with anterior large vessel occlusion were included. Mean National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) on admission was 18.4 ± 4.9. Mean duration of symptoms until the arterial puncture was 207±67 minutes. R… Show more

“…Although endovascular treatment is an expensive treatment modality, it may well be costeffective in comparison to the standard treatment by improving longer-term survival and quality of life and by reducing demands for rehabilitation and nursing home stay after hospital discharge. [9][10][11][12] To date, evidence of the cost-effectiveness of endovascular treatment for acute ischemic stroke based on real-world data is scarce. [13][14][15][16] The aim of the current study is to assess whether endovascular therapy plus usual care is costeffective in comparison to usual care alone in patients with acute ischemic stroke.…”
