The CP stent--short, long, covered--for the treatment of aortic coarctation, stenosis of pulmonary arteries and caval veins, and Fontan anastomosis in children and adults: an evaluation of 60 stents in 53 patients

Abstract: Objective: To evaluate the feasibility and usefulness of the Cheatham platinum (CP) stent in a broad spectrum of lesions. Methods: Retrospective analysis of 60 implanted CP stents (11-80 mm lengths, 12 covered) between September 2001 and March 2004. Patients: 53 patients aged 2.5-68 years (median 17 years). Body weight ranged from 12-95 kg (median 52 kg). Thirty six patients had aortic (re)coarctation; seven of them had functionally interrupted aortic arches. Thirteen patients had pulmonary artery stenosis and… Show more

“…There are several reports of use of the Covered Cheatham-Platinum Stent (CCPS) to prevent or treat aortic wall injuries associated with aortic coarctation, with >95% acute success rate and good midterm results [8][9][10][11]. Its use in the RVOT to repair wall injuries has also been reported [12,13].…”

“…Covered stents have been used successfully in the management of aortic coarctation and a number of reports document this experience [117][118][119][120][121][122][123][124][125][126][127][128][129][130][131][132][133][134][135][136] A variety of covered stents have been utilized and these include Jostent grafts (Jomed International, Helsingborg, Sweden), Cheatham-Platinum stents (NuMed Inc, Hopkinton, NY), AneuRx (Medtronic, Watford, UK), Advanta V12 (Atrium Medical, Hudson, NH) and others. While these stents are available outside the United States, they are not approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for clinical use.…”

“…In literature, carefully directed perforation of the obstruction utilizing a coronary wire and creation of a neo-aortic lumen, followed by balloon angioplasty and stent placement, successfully relieving the CoA in adolescents and adults was described (2,3). In this report, the patient was eight year old, and was Figure 1.…”
