“…Unfortunately, in the Mangyshlak region, in the limestone and coarse chalk directly overlying the "clay bed," the preservation of echinoid tests is rarely satisfactory. In this respect, the sections through the Sumbar syncline in the western Kopet-Dag region, which have been studied in detail by Alekseyev [1], are more favorable. According to his observations, the light bluish gray Upper Maastrichtian marls with Echinocorys and Hoploscaphites constrictus Sowerby are overlain by marls and limestones of the Sumbar horizon, which belongs to the Danian stage.…”
