The criticality of tourism development, economic complexity, and country security on ecological footprint

Abstract: What kinds of countries are likely to be prosperous and have a sustainable environment at the same time? How might countries reorient their policy setting to be more capable of suppressing environmental degradation? To explore these questions, this research examines data from 99 countries for 2006–2017, takes the six major forms of ecological footprint (EF) as indicators of environmental quality, and probes the environmental Kuznets curve (EKC) hypothesis via quantile regression approach. We find that tourism … Show more

“…Both studies were done between 1990 and 2011, the most recent being in 2011. Similarly, Lee et al (2022) investigated the impact of financial development on environmental quality in the income groups over the period of 1990-2017. They employed the AMG estimator and found the significant role of financial development in environmental reduction only for high-income economies.…”

“…Their results demonstrate that the impact of renewable energy on CO 2 emissions decrease is significantly more significant than the impact of atomic energy. Lee et al (2022) also tried to investigate the role of renewable energy consumption in different income group. They found the negative relationship between the RE and carbon emissions only for higher and upper middle income countries.…”

“…Many nations rely on tourism as a primary source for generating revenues, employment, private sector growth, and infrastructure development (World Tourism Organization 1997 ). Studies have shown that its development could also trigger overall economic growth (Lee and Chen 2022 ; Lee et al 2022 ), thus spurring many studies related to tourism topics in order to see what factors relate to economic growth, environment, culture, or society. In this paper, we focus on the topic of air quality and tourism in a cross-country framework.…”
