“…The activation energy for substitutional incorporation of N 3-ions in the TiO 2 lattice is quite high and the potential barrier for such incorporation can be extensively reduced by the presence of W 6+ ion in the crystal lattice [5]. Two W 6+ ions can replace three Ti 4+ ions leading to the formation of titanium vacancy (V Ti ) and similarly two N 3-ions can replace three O 2ions creating one oxygen vacancy (V o ) for maintaining the charge neutrality of the solid [8].
