The crystal structure of cobalt(II) bisacetylacetone dihydrate

Abstract: Intensities of (hO1), (h/CO) and (Mcl) reflexions were estimated visually from Weissenberg photographs taken using MoK radiation. To obtain a range of intensity for each reflexion, instead of the usual method of interleaving films with metal foil, films of different speeds (Ilford Industrial G and B) were used (Iball, 1954). Reflexions were observed to a sin 0 limit of 0.59. Roughly equidimensional crystals of side 0.3 mm. were used and, within this range of sin 0,

“…complexes with L ϭ pyridine, [5] 6-methylquinoline [4] and 2-aminopyridine, [6] but are longer than those observed for other Co II complexes with 3,5-dimethylpyrazole. [15,16] The most interesting feature of the crystal structure of 1 is the presence of hydrogen bonds that may play an important role in the stabilisation of the cis configuration of the monodentate ligands.…”

“…Compound 2 has a similar absorption spectrum with two main bands, one at 1125 nm and the other at 502 nm. These two bands correspond to the 4 T 1g (F)Ǟ 4 T 2g (F) and 4 T 1g (F)Ǟ 4 T 1g (P) transitions. The multiple structure of the band near 500 nm arises from a number of effects, but primarily from the admixture of spinforbidden transitions to doublet states mainly derived from 2 G and 2 H. [14] Study of the complexation reaction that occurs upon adding Hdmpz or Hdmea to [Co(acac) 2 2 (Hdmea)] are formed, irrespective of the nature of the solvent used.…”

“…Notable exceptions include the anhydrous bis(acetylacetonato) Co I~, Ni I~ and Zn II complexes which possess oligomeric structures with bridging acac groups. The structures of the trans-diaquabis(acetylacetonato) complexes of both Co II and Ni ~ have been previously described (Bullen, 1959;Montgomery & Lingafelter, 1964) and the preparation of trans-Ni(F6acac)2(H20)2 has been * To whom correspondence should be addressed.…”
