The crystal structure of nickel salicylaldoxime

Abstract: The structure of nickel salicylaldoxime, Ni[OCCeH4CH =NOtt] 2, has been studied by X-ray singlecrystal methods. The unit cell is monoelinic, space group P21/n, two molecules per unit cell, and a ----13.83, b ----4.89, c ----10.20 A, fl ---110 ° 26'. The nickel atoms are required to be at symmetry centers and the bonds around the nickel atom must be in a trans planar arrangement. The whole molecule is planar. There appears to be a very strong, short, hydrogen bond (2-52 A) between the phenolic oxygen atom of on… Show more

“…In the cobalt complex (Dwivedi & Srivastava, 1971) such an interaction, though weak, was observed. The Ni-N and Ni-O distances are 1.84 and 1.85 ./~ respectively, which may be compared with those observed in other similar diamagnetic nickel(II) complexes: 1.83 and 1.86 A in bis(salicylaldoximato)nickel (Merritt, Guare & Lessor, 1956); 1.87 and 1.90 A in bis(dimethylglyoximato)nickel (Godycki & Rundle, 1953) and 1.84 A in bis(salicylaldiminato)nickel(II) (Stewart & Lingafelter, 1959). The N-Ni-O angle is 84.4 °, thus the coordination around nickel is somewhat distorted square planar.…”

“…The hydrogen bond formed between the two salicylaldoxime residues, with O-H • • • O distance of 2-58 J~, is only slightly longer than the 2.52 A bond in bis(salicylald0ximat0)ltickel(II) reported by Merritt, Guare & Lessor (1956).…”

“…In the present work we report a tetranuclear Mn (III)-salicylaldoxime cluster without any bridging co-ligands. It is interesting to note that the X-ray structures of the divalent nickel [17], copper [18,19], zinc [20], palladium [21], and platinum [21] complexes of salicylaldoxime and substituted salicylaldoxime ligand reveal a mononuclear bis bidentate ligation.…”
