The current status of male and female sterilization procedures

Abstract: The current status of male and female sterilization is defined. Current techniques involved in the surgical occlusion of the vasa deferentia and the fallopian tubes are explored. These techniques are evaluated against criteria that include efficacy, reversibility and safety. Future developments in simpler surgical and non-surgical techniques as well as in safer chemical or physical occlusive agents are more fully elaborated.
