The Damping Ring for Novosibirsk Φ- and B-factories

Abstract: The Damping Ring is designed to provide the accumulation, cooling and extraction of electron and positron beams at energy of 510 MeV with the particle production rate 2 x 10" per second for injection into @-factory and (after additional acceleration) B-factory. The lattice consists of four symmetrical quadrants. The magnetic field polarity doesn't change by changing the particle sort. To provide a short bunch length ( U cv 5 mm) two warm cavities of 800 kV total RF voltage are used. The single turn injection s… Show more

“…Since operation of damping ring is not assumed with circulating beams during long time, it is enough to have the beam lifetime of tens or hundreds seconds. Nevertheless, to avoid the nonlinear resonances due to ion instability the vacuum level must be less than 5 • 10 −9 Torr [5].…”

“…Thus, the old injector was insufficient in positron production rate. Other limitation of VEPP-2000 efficiency is the maximum energy of the booster ring BEP [2] limited at the value of 800 MeV. Even with unlimited beams, the beam-beam parameter decreases after the acceleration in the VEPP-2000 collider as 1/γ 2 .…”

“…Since 1974 the e + e − collider VEPP-2M has been successfully running in the Budker Institute of Nuclear Physics in Novosibirsk in the c.m.energy range from the threshold of hadron production to 1400 MeV [14]. Its maximum luminosity reached ∼ 3 · 10 30 cm −2 s −1 at the φ meson energy.…”

“…As was realized at the very early steps of the φ meson studies at the colliding beam machines, K S K L pairs ( ≈ 34% of all φ decays) can be used as a source for studying CP and CPT violation. These suggestions, including studies of quantum mechanical correlations, were discussed for experiments at the Novosibirsk electron-positron collider VEPP-2M [1]- [3]. The coupled decays of the K S K L pairs will allow demonstration of the quantum mechanical correlations of the two particle decays (Einstein-Podolsky-Rosen paradox) [4].…”
