The nuclear structure of the doubly-even N=84 nuclei has been explained in terms of the two-particle core coupling model. The positive parity states are studied in a diagonalization treatment, while the negative parity states are treated in a perturbation approach. Theoretical spectroscopic factors for a 143Nd(d, p) reaction are compared with experimental data. Electromagnetic properties are calculated and some of them (electric quadrupole moment, reduced E3 transition probability) are analysed by means of perturbation theory.
