The design and fabrication of nanoengineered platinum needles with laser welded carbon nanotubes (CNTs) for the electrochemical biosensing of cancer lymph nodes

Abstract: A new biosensor for detecting cancer lymph nodes was developed based on the electrochemical tracing of fatty acid oxidation. The sensor needles were decorated with superhydrophobic multi-walled carbon nanotubes using laser irradiation nano-welding.

“…The histological hematoxylin and eosin staining (H&E) method was used for morphological and pathological evaluation of the tumor samples. Each slide was photographed using a camera coupled to the microscope (Olympus-BX51BX51, America, Centre Valley PA) for further qualitative pathological studies at 400X magnification ( 16 ).…”

“…They consist of one or more graphene sheets rolled into a continuous cylindrical structure with closed ends and high tensile strength along the axial direction. CNTs have infinite commercial value due to their excellent mechanical, thermal, chemical, and electrical properties, which make them ideal for use in new gas sensors, enzyme biosensors, voltammetry, DNA probes, photocatalysts, adsorbent membranes, batteries, hydrogen storage devices, fuel cells, and biomedical applications . Besides, CNTs have unique antibacterial and antifungal properties due to their electrostatic repulsion, oxidative stress, and membrane damage, making them attractive nanofillers for active, reinforced, and intelligent packaging materials in food applications.…”

“…Au nanocages (AuNCs) coupled with aminated MWCNT (MWCNT-NH2) was used to form a AuNCs/MWCNT-NH2 nanostructure-based SPCE biosensor with good sensitivity and stability given its high surface area, superior conductivity, and excellent biocompatibility. Meanwhile, Zandi et al [83] developed a nanoengineered platinum (Pt) needle electrode to detect reductions in the lipid content of lymph nodes (LNs), which results from fatty acid metabolism by invasive cancer cells. In the mentioned study, the highly conductive and superhydrophobic MWCNTs were used to improve the interactive surface between the Pt electrodes and the lipidic contents of the LNs.…”
