The Detection of Brucella Bacteria with PCR and Bacteriological Method in Raw Milk and Some of the Dairy Products Which Are Consumed in Kars

Abstract: Because of the abort by the contamination to the humans via direct contact with infected animals or the consumption of contaminated raw milk and dairy products, brucellosis greatly causes to economic loss. For this reason, the annihilating of the effect of this disease is considerably important. Here, we aimed to detect the existence of Brucella bacteria in raw milk, cheese which is produced from raw milk and butter samples by using isolation, identification and PCR molecular techniques. Brucella type agents w… Show more

“…In addition, several methods for the optimization of DNA extraction from milk to improve subsequent PCR analysis have been set up leading to the reliable detection of Brucella spp. in milk of infected animals (Alamian and Dadar 2019;Ali et al 2014;Gulbaz and Kamber 2016;Kaynak-Onurdag et al 2016;Leal-Klevezas et al 1995). The sensitivity and specificity of the PCR were higher when compared to the culture method, allowing the detection of lower concentrations of Brucella organisms in milk (Amoroso et al 2011;Nimri 2003;Ning et al 2012).…”

“…Total of 315 samples of raw milk, cheeses and butter were examined for brucellosis by PCR and bacteriological examination. Pasteurization of milk before consumption is essential to prevent transmission of the pathogen to humans (Gulbaz and Kamber 2016 ). This poses a major public health threat by consuming non-pasteurized milk products produced by unhygienic dairy farms where brucellosis is endemic (Wareth et al 2014 ).…”
