The Determination of Aerosol Distribution by a No-Blind-Zone Scanning Lidar

Abstract: A homemade portable no-blind zone laser detection and ranging (lidar) system was designed to map the three-dimensional (3D) distribution of aerosols based on a dual-field-of-view (FOV) receiver system. This innovative lidar prototype has a space resolution of 7.5 m and a time resolution of 30 s. A blind zone of zero meters, and a transition zone of approximately 60 m were realized with careful optical alignments, and were rather meaningful to the lower atmosphere observation. With a scanning platform, the lida… Show more

“…It indicates that the standard method is not suitable for the further aerosol analysis under the condition of low SNR, which is sensitive to the extinction coefficient errors, such as the feature classification, the retrieval of microphysical properties, etc. [34]. The relative biases of profile 48 (the second profile) from the IIR method at the start of "feature" may be caused by the system constant and the initial value of the lidar ratio.…”

“…However the coding system has a lower magnitude of the power spectrum, compared with a non-coding system [16], so the effective detection distance of the coding system is limited. Wang [19] realizes a dual optical receiving direct detecting lidar system to solve the blind zone problem caused by the system geometry factor of the transceiver allograft. Eric P. Magee [17,18] demonstrated the feasibility of the bistatic coherent lidar system.…”
