The determination of salicylic acid in wines using a ligand-exchange reaction

Abstract: The analytical method based on a ligand-exchange reaction is proposed for the determination of salicylic acid (SA) in wines. The reaction was followed spectrophotometrically by monitoring the rate of appearance of the manganese(II)-salicylate complex in alkaline medium at 370 nm. The initial-rate method is adopted for constructing the calibration curve, which was found to be linear over the concentration range of 0.69-4.14 µg mL -1 . The optimized conditions yielded a theoretical detection limit of 0.11 µg mL … Show more

“…Minussi et al [26] determined salicylic acid in seven samples of Italian wines, and the resulting amount ranged from 200 µg/L to 1000 µg/L. Pavlovic et al [45] analyzed 12 wine samples, and the salicylic acid content in this case ranged from 350 ± 0.02 µg/L to 1400 ± 0.01 µg/L. In a study by Nikfardjam et al [46], this acid was not detected in some samples, and in others, it reached values of a maximum of 310 µg/L.…”
