AbstractIt has long been recognized the need to change traditional teaching, characterized by superficiality in learning and student passivity, into another in which the student actively participates in the learning process. In fact, in the current adaptation being carried out by the universities in Spain, within the plans of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), one of the aims is to improve the methodologies and resources in the students' education.Active learning creates a more motivating, challenging and more satisfying context for the students, and a way to create it is modifying the activities that students do in their class, in other words, the characteristics of the learning context.Despite all the research that exists in the area of education on this matter, there still remains a gap regarding the characteristics associated with learning and with motivation and satisfaction.We were not able to find an instrument for the assessment of these concepts; therefore, we have decided to turn to the enterprise world, for some insights to better understand these constructs.The analogy between the world of the company and the academic world is not a new approach. It has long been suggested the idea that what the student does in his classroom, is comparable to what a worker does in his job.In this paper, we have adapted and validated for the academic world, an instrument widely used in the workplace to diagnose and redesign the motivational properties of jobs and measure job satisfaction among workers: The Job Diagnostic Survey (JDS).Although there are other instruments that assess these concepts, the JDS, besides being one of the most widely used measures of job design and satisfaction, includes both constructs in its conceptual model.
