The Development of a Dry Low NOx Combustion System for the EGT Typhoon

Abstract: This paper describes the development of an ultra low NOx (i.e. sub 10 ppmvd) combustion system from the successful completion of a high pressure rig programme, to the installation of the system on a gas turbine in commercial operation. It includes a detailed description of early screening tests for DLN concepts and an explanation of how these were developed on both rig and engine test bed. Specific discussions include the concepts and technology for: 1) NOx reduction … Show more

“…SITL DLE combustion technology is applied across the range of small-scale industrial gas turbines from 5MW to 15 MW (SGT-100 to SGT-400) [12,24,32]. The operational experience on these DLE engines has accumulated more than 20 x 10*h. Figure 1 shows the schematic view of the SITL DLE combustor.…”

“…Tbe radial swirled DLE combustor design is sufficient to generate high swirl number, greater tban 0.6 for a typical gas turbine combustor, to create a vortex breakdown reverse flow feature along tbe axis of tbe combustor [12,24,32]. Tbis flow feature is called as intemal reverse flow zone or central recirculation zone (CRZ).…”
