Introduction: Higher education institutions are expected to clarify their educational quality, and there should be an educational quality assurance system that measures the aspects of quality quality issues. Educational evaluation is a formal process that uses data collection and program assessment to evaluate the effectiveness and/or value of an educational organization, program, process and curriculum. There are many different models and approaches used to evaluate higher education all over the world, and countries often adopt or develop these models to evaluate educational performance. The purpose of this study is to examine types of evaluation and audit models in educational settings all over the world. Methods: A systematic review was conducted from March to May 2014 using two search engines, Google Scholar and PubMed, and three databases, Scopus, Science Direct and Emerald Insight, to search for articles with no study design limitation. We also searched the Scientific Information Database and Magiran databases for Iranian articles.

Evaluating Educational Performance of Postgraduate Students Based on the Tennessee Academic Audit Model

Background: The importance of improving quality and performance in higher education has led various universities to turn to effective methods of educational evaluation, such as auditing. Objectives: The present study evaluated the academic performance of the Tabriz Faculty of Management and Medical Informatics postgraduate students, an Iranian Center of Excellence in Health Management based on the Tennessee Academic Audit Model. Methods: This descriptive-cross sectional study was conducted in 2019 with the participation of educational managers and faculty members of the same faculties in two phases consisting of self-assessment and external evaluation. After contextualization, the Tennessee comprehensive higher education audit checklist was used. Data were studied descriptively, and the results were reported as frequency (percentage) and mean ± standard deviation. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) and Tukey’s post hoc tests were used to evaluate the significance of the difference in academic performance between the educational groups. t-test was also used to evaluate the difference in performance scores in self-assessment and external evaluation phases. A P-value < 0.05 was considered significant. Results: The participants’ performance in the self-assessment phase was moderate (total score: 5.32), and their performance in the external evaluation phase was weak (total score: 2.75). The best and the worst self-assessment scores were in the dimensions of “overall assessment” and “follow-up of previous academic audits,” respectively. In the external evaluation, the dimensions of “contributions to the program and university goals” and “follow-up of previous academic audits” had the best and worst performance scores, respectively. Conclusions: The results demonstrated that the Tabriz Faculty of Management and Medical Informatics of the Medical School needs to improve in terms of international standards. Therefore, managers and policymakers are required to implement interventions to address this gap.

Introduction: The importance of promoting quality and improving performance at higher education levels leads to using educational evaluation methods such as auditing by universities. This study was conducted for educational auditing of Tabriz School of Health Management and Medical Information at undergraduate level based on the Tennessee Educational Audit Model. Methods: This descriptive-analytic and cross-sectional study has been done with participating educational managers and faculty members of Tabriz School of Health Management and Medical Information in two stages of self and external assessment in 2018. Tool for gathering data was a checklist of the Tennessee Higher Education Comprehensive Education Audit that its validity and reliability was assessed and approved by the medical education experts. Collected data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics (frequency, mean) and Tests such as ANOVA ,Tukey, T-Test through SPSS. Results: The study results showed that the performance of this faculty in the self-assessment phase with a score of 4.98 is moderate and in the external assessment phase with a score of 2.80 is weak. The results also showed that the "teaching and learning processes" and "follow-up of pervious academic audit" have the best and worst domains in self-assessment respectively, while in the external assessment the dimensions of "support" and "follow up of previous academic audits" were recognized as the best and worst performance respectively. Also, comparing the results in the self and external assessment phases indicates that in the whole survey and in all aspects of the audit, except for the "quality assurance" and "support" domains, the earned scores at the external assessment phase were lower than self-assessment scores significantly (P <0.05). Conclusion: This study indicated that the Tabriz School of Health Management and Medical Information has significant shortcomings based on international standards and needs improvement through implementing effective and efficient interventions.
