The development of precise genetic stocks in two wheat cultivars and their use in genetic analysis

Abstract: The results of genetic studies of common wheat that have been conducted in Novosibirsk, Russia, over the past 20 years by a research team are summarized. The research strategy was to develop a collection of aneuploids and substitution lines to be further used for chromosomal localization of genes and in the study of the genetic variability of wheat. On the basis of two cultivars, namely Saratovskaya 29 and Diamant, we have developed 6 sets of aneuploids with a complete set of monosomic lines for each, plus set… Show more

“…A gene for hairy (pubescent) auricle designated Pa, was located on chromosome 4BS (Arbuzova et al 1996). The present results agree with the report of Levy and Feldman (1989a), suggesting that a group 5 chromosome in T. dicoccoides carries a gene for hairy auricles.…”

“…This agrees with previous literature reporting that culm colour was controlled by allele Pc1 on chromosome 7B. Gene Pc2, presumably a homoeoalle, was located on chromosome 7DS (Arbuzova et al 1996). Worzella (1942) found a complete association between purple culms and coloured coleoptile in certain crosses.…”

“…According to Akond and Watanabe [24], T. petropavlovskyi is more closely related to T. polonicum than to T. durum or T. turgidum . However, Arbuzova et al [60] and Efremova et al [18] report that the genes supporting the elongated glumes in T. polonicum and T. petropavlovskyi are not allelic.…”

“…Monosomic analysis using monosomic lines of 'S29' and 'Dm2' developed in the Institute of Cytology and Genetics SB RAS (Arbuzova et al 1996) was used for the determination of the chromosomes carrying the introgressed genes for the traits leaf hairiness and glaucousness. Analysis of gliadin component composition was carried as described earlier (Pshenichnikova and Maystrenko 1995).…”
