The Developmental Test of Visual Perception-2 Normative Study on the Visual-Perceptual Function for Children in Hong Kong

Abstract: This research study intended to investigate the visualperceptual performance of children in Hong Kong by comparing them to the accepted norms on the Developmental Test of Visual Perception-2nd edition. The research examined whether there was significant difference in child's gender, age, and grade. The normative study recruited two hundred and eight-nine children between the ages of 6 and 7 in normal primary schools in Hong Kong. Results indicated that there was a ceiling effect in eye-hand coordination, posit… Show more

“…Also, the use of several other neuropsychological (sub)tests have been studied, but evidence for the diagnostic value of individual tests is lacking and most tests seem involved in multiple visual perceptive dimensions ( Ben Itzhak et al, 2021b ). Since performance differences on the DVTP were found between American and Asian children ( Chan and Chow, 2005 ; Cheung et al, 2005 ), adaptation of normative data to local populations seems required. In addition, disorders in visual organization, in recognition in reduced circumstances and recognition in noise are likely typical disorders of visual processing in CVI ( Stiers et al, 2001 ).…”

“…The DTVP-2 includes a battery of eight subscales that measure different but interrelated motor-reduced visual perceptual and motor-enhanced visual-motor abilities (Brown, Rodger, & Davis, 2008;Cheung, Poon, Leung, & Wong, 2005). The four DTVP-2 subscales that measure visual perceptual abilities with minimal motor involvement are Position-in-Space, FigureeGround, Visual Closure, and Form Constancy (Hammill et al, 1993).…”

“…There were many local studies on the performance differences in visual perception and fine motor aspects for children in Hong Kong. In the study by Cheung, Poon, Leung, and Wong (2005), it was noted that there was ceiling effect for 6e7-year-old children in EyeeHand Coordination, Position in Space, and Spatial Relations subtests among the eight different subtests of the Developmental Test of Visual Perception Version 2. Chui, Ng, Fong, Lin, and Ng (2007) found that children aged 6e10 years in Hong Kong performed significantly better in the subtests of Visual-Motor Control and Upper Limb Speed and Dexterity in the BruininkseOseretsky Test of Motor Proficiency than those in the United States.…”
