The digital transformation and novel calibration approaches

Abstract: In this paper we describe how the digital transformation (i. e., the adoption of digital technology) of society affects National Metrology Institutes like VSL. The presented ideas represent the personal viewpoint of the author, who works at the Dutch national metrology institute VSL. They don’t necessarily correspond to the vision of VSL as institute. This digital transformation has many different aspects of social, economic and technical nature. In this paper we will ma… Show more

“…Hoy más que nunca el tiempo apremia. La I4.0 ha permitido evolucionar a industrias de todos los giros y tamaños, pero el retraso en incorporar estos avances en la metrología -la ciencia de las mediciones-ya no es sostenible (Kok, 2022). La cadena productiva, que termina generalmente con alguna medición, debe cerrar filas hacia ese traslado de información hacia la nube… y la información de las mediciones debe subirse al tren.…”

“…How modern technologies such as artificial intelligence, digital twins, digital calibration certificates, and the introduction of new definitions of SI units affected national metrology agencies were discussed. Important changes were the use of sophisticated algorithms and models in measuring instruments, as well as the introduction of new calibration methods and the digitization of services provided by NMI (Kok, 2022). In order to ensure the precision and stable quality of CNC machining, Pan L avoided the possibility of undercut or collision during program execution.…”

“…The digital transformation of the international quality ininfrastructure will be affecting calibration and testing laboratories all around the world [1]. Most of the calibration laboratories with an infrastructure smaller than a national metrology institute in the less advanced technological economies will be challenged to keep track of the digitalisation pathway [2].…”
