“…Previous studies on the renal vasculature of the canine kidney have made conflicting observations regarding the location of the intersegmental plane. One investigator stated that each branch of the renal artery “provides vascularization to one half of the kidney.” 7 In another study, investigators concluded that the “bivalved dog kidney is cut in the line of least vascularity.” 8 Neither study included careful examination of the distribution of the dorsal and ventral renal artery branches. These investigators may have assumed that the unipapillary canine kidney would have a symmetrically arranged arterial system in contrast to the human kidney, which has multiple funnel‐shaped calyces branching off the renal pelvis 8 .…”
