Este This text presents a study about the poetic possibilities and the political aspects about the use of headphones in the contemporary scene. Firstly, a reflection on listening in everyday life is proposed, considering the cultural and political aspects of sound in large Brazilian urban centers; and then an overview of the different approaches to sound in the arts is drawn from the artistic vanguards and technologies of the twentieth century. Then, creative processes and particularities of the scene are analyzed in works in which the sound heard through headphones guides and requests the artist's action through commands, immersive content, or by the verbatim technique. Then, works are analyzed in which the headphones are used as a mediation device of the spectator's experience, providing immersive states, proposing actions and spatial movements, editing looks and expanding listening. Finally, some implications and new possibilities are investigated for the public and for the researcher in arts from the use of headphones, such as the isolation of the viewer in the middle of the collective, the possibilities of documentation of artistic works through phonographic records made with the technique of binaural capture, and access to scenic performances by visually impaired people through audio description.
