The Eating Inventory, body adiposity and prevalence of diseases in a quota sample of Czech adults

Abstract: Objective: To study the relationships between the Eating Inventory (EI) factors (restraint, disinhibition and hunger), body adiposity and prevalence of selected diseases in a quota sample of Czech adults. Subjects and methods: The sample included 1429 men and 1624 women who were interviewed individually by trained investigators. “…one selected sample was recruited by a weight reduction programme. These results may support the hypothesis that particular people with weight problems might have a higher disinhibition (Aurelie et al, 2012;French, Epstein, Jeffery, Blundell, & Wardle, 2012;Hainer et al, 2006;Hays et al, 2002;Lindroos et al, 1997).…”

“…A few other studies reported a significantly higher (Po0.0001) CR (on the original 21-items TFEQ) in women than in men, 28,29,30,31 which is in contrast to the current studies, in which similar scores on CR are found between men and women. Whether these different results between current and past research on CR between men and women are because of publication bias (studies with gender differences on CR tend to be published more than studies without such gender differences) or something more substantive is worthy of future research.…”

“…We assume that a lack of significant changes in lipid profile was due to the short duration of the weight reduction programme. After weight loss, there was a significant correlation of EI-D with lipid profile which is in line with findings of Hainer [11] and…”

“…In contrast to the studies of Hainer [11] and Bryant [18], we did not find any significant association between the EI factors, and BMI and other anthropometric parameters except for borderline correlation of waist circumference with EI-R and EI-D. We suppose that the lack of such a correlation is due to the sample size and small BMI range of our cohort. The study of Hainer et al [11] was performed on a large quota sample of the Czech population with a broad BMI range and thus the association between EI factors and BMI could be demonstrated. The strength of our study is the strictly controlled inpatient weight management programme.…”
