The ecological impact of using photothermal and photovoltaic installations for DHW preparation

Abstract: battery capacity of approx. 21 Ah gives the greatest ecological effects in the form of the lowest CO 2 emission. If a photovoltaic system was added it could reduce emissions by up to an additional 160 kg per year. The above calculations take also emissions resulting from the production of PV panels and batteries into account.

“…An exemplary emission factor for electricity generated in a gas power plant is 400 kg CO 2 /MWh, while for a coal power plant, it is 850 kg CO 2 / MWh [59]. Forecasts for the development of the energy sector in the 2060 perspective are varied (Olczak et al, 2020a;PARP, 2020). Depending on the variant, depending on the costs of emission allowances, gas prices, or the share of renewable energy, the share of coal energy in 2020-2040 changes from 62-56% for the variant with high costs of emission allowances from 51-14% with the possibility of reducing the emission level to 85 million Mg CO 2 .…”

“…At the same time, most of the scientific works on similar topics concern countries in which the development of energy generation using photovoltaic cells is significant -mainly China, and in Europe, Germany or the Czech Republic (Roos (2021), in Poland, e.g., rural areas (Piwowar and Dzikuć, 2019), or the western part of the country. There are also studies presented in a similar approach, but calculated for an individual object Olczak et al, (2020). On the other hand, there are no scientific studies comprehensively covering the area of the Małopolskie Voivodeship in relation to the possibility of obtaining an ecological effect with the use of photovoltaic installations.…”

“…The interest in renewable energy sources is also related to caring for the environment and searching for long-term potential actions for sustainable development (Lin and Ren 2020;Østergaard et al 2020;Canales et al 2020). One of the important renewable energy technologies is photovoltaics (Allied Market Research 2019;Olczak et al 2020a). The pace and nature of its expansion around the world vary, including across the EU.…”
