The Effect of Addition of High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE) as Binder on Hebel Light Brick (celcon)

Abstract: Plastic is one of the polymer materials that is widely used in daily lives, one of them is High-Density Poly Ethylene (HDPE) polymer which is the one type of the large contributors to plastic waste, and also believed to cause environmental and health problems. One of the advanced materials is lightweight brick which has become an innovation in building materials. Lightweight Hebel brick (celcon) is an infrastructure product that is widely used on this day. This study is entitled High-Density Poly Ethylene (HDP… Show more

“…These include the need for proper temperature control mechanisms to overcome the dangers associated with open flame usage 6,21,[29][30][31] and the danger of manual mixing methods which is linked to inconsistent mixing and poor dispersion of the materials used. 6,21,29,31 Additionally, some limitations in the manufacturing of plastic sand bricks include the restriction to specific fillers such as fly ash, [32][33][34] river and quarry sand 20,[35][36][37][38] and additives such as bitumen 39 and talc. 40 Currently, there is a lack of available literature on the use of Kaolin Clay as an additive in plastic sand bricks and its widespread use in the construction industry.…”

“…4 HDPE is one of the largest contributors to plastic pollution affecting the environment, aquatic animals, and humans. 5,6 Plastic waste not only poses challenges to the natural environment but also affects local inhabitants, tourism, and infrastructure, such as storm water systems, leading to a host of health challenges. 7,8 Therefore, management systems must be in place to prevent plastic pollution reaching uncontrollable levels.…”
