The Effect of Aluminum Electropolishing on Nano-Pores Arrangement in Anodic Alumina Membranes

Abstract: Surface conditions of aluminum can influence the final arrangement of nano-pores in fabrication of ordered nanoporous anodic alumina membranes (AAMs). This study is mainly focused on the different applied voltages of aluminum electropolishing by keeping all the other parameters constant. After heat treatment (stress relieving and annealing at 500°C) of pure aluminum sheets, the samples were electropolished at different voltages (10-60V) to obtain desirable surface smoothness, while the temperature of the conta… Show more

“…The total anodization time was always set to t end = 30 min, whereas the current density J was varied. The oxalic acid concentration was 0.3 M, as reported in most works done with this EL [1,3,6,11,31,34-36,42-45]. …”

“…Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) as one of the most popular self-organized hexagonal lattices has recently attracted considerable attention. A few specific features of AAOs like low cost fabrication, simplicity, controllability of pore dimensions, accessibility of high aspect ratio pores, long-range stability, and compatibility of these porous films with existing semiconductor technology have attracted researchers’ interests, making them a viable candidate for large-scale industrial processing and a proper alternative to conventional nanolithography techniques.…”

“…Critical high anodising potential, which is the anodising potential required to induce high current density while preventing the local current density concentration on the aluminium surface, was applied to the high-field anodising. The role of electropolishing prior to the anodising process was also emphasised in order to achieve highly ordered PAA [18,19].…”
