The coronavirus COVID-19 swept the world in early 2020, working from home was a necessity. In the software industry, thousands of software developers began working from home, many did so on short notice, under difficult and stressful conditions. The emotions of developers can be affected by this situation. On the other hand, some well-known soft skills have been emphasized as required for working remotely. Software engineering research lacks theory and methodologies for addressing human aspects in software development. In this paper, we present an exploratory study focused on the developers’ wellbeing during pandemic, expressed as emotions, and the perceptions of the level in which soft skills are practiced/required in the working from home mode. The results show that high percent expressed to experience positive emotions, however, a portion of respondents expressed to feel negative emotions. In the case of soft skills, some of them are revealed as practiced in high level in working from home, but still there is not consensus.

The pandemic of COVID-19 that has been running for more than two years has changed the face of higher education. Various obstacles and challenges in teaching forced the entire academic community to adapt to the biggest health crisis. The research is a pilot study or introduction that aims to see how lecturers interpret their teaching performance during the pandemic and how they reflect on their teaching as an evaluation material. The method used here is a focus group discussion with eight lecturers from UPN Veteran East Java, Jakarta, and Yogyakarta, using thematic analysis to process the data. Three major thematics were found, namely, mental wellbeing, knowledge transfer, and creative pedagogies. It is recommended to conduct research with a larger scale of participants to be able to compare the performance of lecturers at UPN. The pandemic condition makes mental health a priority not only for the students but also the lecturers. Therefore, the combination of teaching creativity and the enhancement of technology are expected to reduce stress and burnout for both parties. It is recommended to further and scale up the number of research participants to have a more comprehensive understanding of how the pandemic impacted the learning process in higher education institutions.

Orientation: Employee productivity is affected by various social and psychological variables. Flexible work arrangements (FWAs) and participative styles are expected to influence employee productivity.Research purpose: This study examined the effect of FWA and participative styles on employee productivity, specifically of Generation Z (Gen Z) employees. It also examines the mediating role of emotional engagement on the effect of FWA and participative styles on employee productivity.Motivation for the study: Gen Z workers have specific work-behavioural characteristics, including freedom and flexibility. This study provides empirical evidence of factors that increased the productivity of Gen Z employees by examining the influence of FWA and participative style.Research approach/design and method: This study was designed as explanatory. Data were collected using a survey involving 259 employees by purposive sampling technique. The data were analysed by the Partial Least Squares-Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM) method with the IBM AMOS 26 program.Main findings: Flexible work arrangement, participative style and emotional engagement affect employee productivity in direct and indirect relationships. However, there is no significant effect of FWAs on emotional engagement.Practical/managerial implications: Organisations need to develop FWA systems and more employee participation at work. It is expected to strengthen emotional engagement in their organisation and increase their productivity indirectly.Contribution/value-add: The study took Gen Z as the object of this research to support the assumption that this generation prefers a flexible way of working but still supports their productivity achievements.
