The effect of dietary sumac fruit powder (Rhus coriaria L.) on performance and blood antioxidant status of broiler chickens under continuous heat stress condition

Abstract: The effects of different levels of 0.0 sumac fruit powder (Z-SFP), 0.25 (L-SFP), 0.50 (M-SFP) and 1% (H-SFP) along with 100 mg/kg alpha tocopherol acetate (VE) were investigated on performance and blood antioxidant status of broiler chickens under heat stress condition. L-SFP, M-SFP and VE birds showed higher body weight gain (BWG) than Z-SFP and H-SFP birds during the starter period (P<0.05). No significant differences were observed among the treatments for feed intake (FI) during the starter, grower and whol… Show more

“…According to the studies on broiler chickens, 0.5% sumac supplementation reduced negative impacts of heat stress and increased performance during the starter phase. However, sumac supplementation till 1% did not affect carcase traits, including the relative weight of thigh muscle, abdominal fat pad, liver and heart (Alishah et al 2013).…”

“…In response to the increased interest of consumers in natural products and with a view to meet evolving market demands, over time, the poultry sector focussed on how to increase the growth performance and regulate the intestinal microflora of animals, and targeted at developing new products that would not harm human health (Alishah et al 2013). The essential oils of natural aromatic herbs, which are purified from all hazardous synthetic products, do not pose any risk to human health and do not leave any residues in animal products, are among the primary of these newly developed products (Attia and Al-Harthi 2015;Attia, Bakhashwain, et al 2017;Guo et al2020).…”

“…It has been stated by the results of the study that the addition of herbal additives to the diet improves blood oxidative stress parameters, and the addition of different amounts of sumac (Kırar et al, 2020) and peppermint oil (Doğan et al, 2020) to quail feed reduces OSI values in the blood. Alishah et al (2013) reported that sumac supplementation did not affect blood antioxidant values during the growth period.…”
