The Effect of Eco-Enzyme Spraying on Suwung Landfill Waste, Denpasar, on Changes in Leachate Characteristics

Abstract: Introduction: Bali, as an international tourist destination, is still experiencing problems in waste management. Suwung Landfill, Denpasar, is one of the landfills for waste originating from the Denpasar, Badung, Gianyar, and Tabanan (Sarbagita) areas. Methods: This research was an experimental study, by watering eco-enzymes on garbage heaps and examining changes in leachate parameters. Watering was carried out daily at a dose of 1 L of eco-enzyme dissolved in 1000 L of water and used for watering a garbage pi… Show more

“…However, it is challenging to implement sustainable waste disposal because of physical and topographical limitations, as well as economic, social, and political conditions (2). Developed countries produce more solid waste than developing countries, but the availability of sufficient technology and costs still make the countries more efficient in their disposal (3)(4). A significant obstacle in urban planning in emerging nations is the escalating garbage generation and the exorbitant expenses associated with its treatment (5)(6).…”

“…Nurfajriah et al (2021) stated that eco-enzyme is a liquid extract that comes from the fermentation of fruit and vegetable residues to which brown sugar substrate is added. According to Muliarta et al (2023), eco-enzyme has the potential to become an activator that can speed up the composting process. Apart from being a composting activator, eco-enzymes can also be used to degrade pollutants in waste water.…”
