Kim and Jun (2021) examined the effect of gratitude and self-encouragement on depression in people with psychiatric disabilities and found that higher gratitude scores were associated with lower levels of depression. Most recently, Umucu and colleagues (2021) found that higher levels of gratitude were significantly associated with lower levels of suicidal ideation after controlling for depression in veterans with mental illness and posttraumatic stress disorder.…”
