The Effect of Immersion Duration in Thyroxine Hormone on Growth of Snakehead Fish Larvae (Channa striata)

Abstract: The aim of this research was to determine the best immertion duration to increase growth rate of snakehead fish larva. The research was conducted in Fish Breeding unit Batanghari Sembilan Indralaya, Kabupaten Ogan Ilir. This research used a Completely Randomized Design (CRD), with five treatments (0, 12, 24, 36, and 48 hours of immertion), with three replications. The parameters observed were growth, survival rate and water quality. The results of  this research show that the highest growth rate found in the 2… Show more

“…The fastest absorption rate of egg yolk of Java barb larvae was found in treatment D. The combination of thyroxine and rGH hormone solution with a long immersion time, 3 hours, was assumed to give the best effect because the amount of hormones entering the fish's body is adequate so that it increased the metabolism. According to [6], the longer the immersion time leads to the greater the amount of thyroxine hormone which enters the fish's body and will exceed the tolerance limit of the fish's body, i.e. above 36 hours, which can inhibit the fish's development.…”
