The effect of mangrove (Rhizophora apiculata) bark extract ethanol on histopathology pancreas of male white rats Sprague Dawley strain exposed to cigarette smoke

Abstract: Background: Cigarette smoke is free radical that causing some pathological conditions such as inflammation, proteolysis, and oxidative stress. In previous studies, mangrove (Rhizophora apiculata) bark extract showed the potential effect as an antioxidant. Mangrove and mangrove associates are abundant plants that grow throughout Indonesian shorelines that have high pharmaceutical and food values. Objective: The purpose of this study is to explore the potential of Rhizophora apiculata bark extract in protecting p… Show more

“…In addition to the primary oxidant action, the constituents in the gas phase of cigarette smoke are able to enter the systemic circulation via the pulmonary circulation, and exacerbate systemic effects such as inflammation [36] . Since smoking is a source of free radical formation that causes crucial pathological conditions such as inflammation, [37] CSE and HTP‐induced inflammatory biomarkers in HepG2 cells were assessed in the present study. For this purpose, nitrite level as an important biochemical marker for acute injury and inflammation, pro‐inflammatory cytokine IL‐6 level, and a ligand‐activated transcription factor mediating inflammatory response and metabolism, [38] AhR level, were determined in HepG2 cells with or without α‐LA pre‐treatments.…”
