The effect of moulding process parameters on interlaminar properties of CF/PEEK composite laminates

Abstract: Interlaminar properties are one of the most important indicators of thermoplastic composite quality. A series of laminates with different moulding process parameters were prepared by unidirectional carbon fibre-reinforced polyether ether ketone (CF/PEEK) prepreg to explore the influence of moulding process parameters on the interlaminar properties of CF/PEEK composite laminates. The influence of the three process parameters, moulding pressure, moulding temperature, and holding time on the interlaminar shear st… Show more

“…Although thermoplastic composites were extensively characterized under quasistatic tensile, compressive, shear, and fatigue loading conditions [ 19 , 20 , 21 , 22 , 23 , 24 , 25 , 26 , 27 ], few studies concerned the dynamic mechanical behavior of thermoplastic composites at elevated temperatures. Thermoplastic composites are significantly sensitive to temperature.…”

“…Carbon fiber reinforced resin matrix composites are widely used in aerospace, energy and automotive industries due to their high specific stiffness and strength, low density, corrosion resistance, fatigue resistance and strong designability. 1 4 As a typical low-cost carbon fiber prepared by dry-jet wet spinning, T700SC carbon fiber has the characteristics of high strength, approximate circular cross-section structure and few internal defects. 5 7 Compared with carbon fibers prepared by wet spinning, T700SC carbon fiber is more suitable for preparing pressure vessel products, which has the advantages of high-speed drawing, fast spinning speed and high production efficiency.…”

“…Mechanical properties of woven composites depend on not only their constituents but also the manufacturing process. [4][5][6][7] Manufacturing process modifies the internal structure of composite materials. 5,6 In the popular processes for woven composite parts, such as thermoforming and resin transfer molding, a significant change of yarn angle (the angle between the weft and warp yarns) would occur due to the in-plane shear in the preforming process, particularly for the part with double curvature features ( Figure 1).…”
