The effect of natural modifiers for starch hydrophobization on performance of composite based on ethylene acrylic acid copolymer

Abstract: As a renewable resource, starch is considered to be fully biodegradable and nonpolluting to the environment but the hygroscopicity of starch is the main disadvantage for wider applicability in the production of a polymer-based material. Hydrophobically modified starch prepared using natural-based plasticizers/modifiers in a first step ([−]-diisopropyl D-tartrate [DiPT], ricinoleic acid [RA] and epoxidized soybean oil [ESO]), and maleated polypropylene (MAPP) in a second step contributed to better compatibility… Show more

“…The Charpy method was used to test the toughness of composite in accordance with the standard EN ISO 179-1/1fU (EN ISO 179-1:2000) using the device Zwick & Co. KG. Germany [ 49 ]. Dynamic-mechanical analysis of cured composites was performed using the Modular Compact Rheometer MCR–302 (Anton Paar GmbH, Ashland, VA, USA) in the torsion deformation mode [ 50 ].…”

“…The third endothermic event ranging from approximately 240 to 340 C in Figure 9 is associated with the thermal degradation process of the polymer matrix that is characterized by a significant loss of mass in Figure 10, and also to the degradation of the BSG fibers, which is in accordance with the TGA results. [62] TGA curves and their first derivative (DTG) for TPS, C35-2.5, and C100-1 samples are shown in Figure 10, where the occurrence of three main stages of mass loss can be observed.…”
