The effect of ozone feeding mode on the effectiveness of NO oxidation

Abstract: The influence of ozone injection mode on the effectiveness of nitrogen monoxide oxidation to nitrogen dioxide by ozone in a flow reactor was investigated experimentally in laboratory apparatus. Nitrogen monoxide was diluted to the mole fraction 100 ppm in air which served as the carrier gas flowing through the tube of the diameter D = 60 mm into which ozone was injected. The effects of a number of ozone injecting nozzles and their configuration on the effectiveness of NO oxidation were examined. In the closest… Show more

“…Ozone was produced by the ozone generator 6 of the type OZAT CFS-3 2G of Degremont Technologies Ltd (Ozonia) which was fed by oxygen (2.6 m 3 /h) from the steel cylinder 5. The ozone flow rate into the flue gas duct was controlled by the method described elsewhere (Jakubiak and Kordylewski, 2011).…”

“…Experimental research was carried out in the laboratory apparatus presented in details in previous studies (Jakubiak and Kordylewski, 2011). The oxidation flow reactor was made from a Plexiglas tube of the inner diameter D = 60 mm and the length L = 2 m. In order to provide uniform flow velocity profile and generate turbulence a steel grid with the mesh 0.5×0.5 mm was installed at the inlet of the reactor.…”

“…Therefore the performance of NO oxidation with ozone is important, because NO x cannot be effectively captured in an absorber without conversion of NO into higher oxides. Currently numerous publications describing chemical process of nitrogen monoxide oxidation with ozone are available (Jakubiak and Kordylewski, 2011;Jaroszyńska-Wolińska, 2009;Mok and Lee, 2006;Nelo et al, 1997;Puri, 1995;Skalska et al, 2011;Wang et al, 2006).…”

“…It mainly takes place in the transformation of hemicelluloses, or in the transformation of cellulose and lignin. The result of this process is a 30% weight loss, the release of so-called torgas, and the obtaining of biochar [116,117]. Biochar has very interesting properties, such as the ability to bind organic and inorganic pollutants and the ability to retain nutrients and water-the raw material can be used as a soil improver or a sorbent to remove pollutants [118].…”
