The Effect of Pozzolans and Mineral Wastes on Alkali-silica Reaction in Recycled Aggregated Mortar

Abstract: In this study, it was aimed to examine recycled aggregates (RA), which are considered as aggregates, in terms of alkali-silica reaction (ASR) before being used in concrete, to determine the risk status and to reduce the ASR value. In order to reduce and stop the ASR, the cement was replaced with clay brick and fly-ash by 10–40 %. Marble waste and Pb-Zn mine waste were used instead of RA in order to reduce aggregate reactivity. At the end of 28 days, compared to the control sample, it was observed that mortar b… Show more

“…As a result, extensive research projects have been conducted recently to adverse the durability and sustainability of concrete by using different industrial waste and by-products to replace, partially or totally, Portland cement and natural aggregates in ordinary concrete. These include silica fume [3], fly ash [4], metakaolin [5], recycled aggregates [6], etc. However, less attention is given to lowering water consumption in concrete production.…”

“…Therefore, the cement and concrete industry needs to adjust the development mode, change the direction of development, reduce energy consumption, reduce environmental pollution, and take the road of sustainable development [ 1 ]. The decisive material in cement and concrete is the cementitious material, and the traditional cementitious material is usually cement-based, fly ash, mineral powder, silica fume and other industrial by-products as mineral admixtures [ 2 , 3 , 4 , 5 ]. The construction industry consumes a large amount of steel and cement, especially in the process of cement production, which emits gases such as CO 2 , SO 2 , SO 3 and NO 2 that cause serious pollution to the environment.…”
