The Effect of Processing on The Surface and Subsurface Characteristic of Plastic Injection Mold Steel

Abstract: AISI P20 is prehardened mold steel that is commonly used to manufacture plastic injection molding. The surface characteristics of molds play crucial role to control plastic injected molds parts. Besides, the characteristic of molds is mainly influenced by machining process, the manufacturing process to produce molds. This study presents the extensive experimental work focusing on the machining processing conditions on the surface characteristics of Plastic Injection mold steels. The input parameters are cuttin… Show more

“…
American iron and steel institute (AISI) P20 steel is classified as a plastic mold tool steel since it is widely used in mold manufacturing, including hydroforming tools, dies, and molds for plastic injection. [1][2][3][4] It is distinguished by a low carbon content (0.28%-0.4%) and large amounts of chromium and manganese alloying elements (1%-2%). AISI P20 steel is conventionally supplied and commonly utilized in a pre-hardened state.
