Abstract:The effect of particles on accurate salinity measurements is relevant to all areas of oceanographic research where high particle concentrations occur (such as suspended sediment in estuaries or swash zones), or very precise salinity or density calculations are necessary (such as for supercooling measurements). Any particles in the ocean water will contribute to the density of the water parcel and influence measurements of density as well as salinity calculated from conductance measurements (e.g.,

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
