The effect of PVC’s resin K-value on the mechanical properties of the artificial leather

Abstract: Artificial leather offer wide variety of application thus the demand is increased over time. The variation of the product needs different properties that can be achieved using resin with suitable k-value.This works reports the influence of the resin k-value on the mechanical properties of the artificial leather. The combination of various resin with different k-value (66, 68, 72, 74, and 76)is used and the tensile strength and elongation at break of the product were evaluated. The results show that blending th… Show more

“…These mechanical results are in good agreement with previous work by Syabanı et al [22] who highlighted that internal defects, such as micropores, can significantly compromise the product's integrity, leading to damage, fractures, and failures. Therefore, coating pastes necessitate specific rheological properties to ensure optimal performance.…”

“…As stated by Hamilton [27], powders comprising flat and elongated particles frequently display elevated porosity and reduced flow characteristics due to heightened inter-particle friction, leading to the development of shear surfaces. Consequently, as highlighted in previous studies [20][21][22][23][24][25], powders exhibiting inadequate flow properties are susceptible to cluster formation, hindering the effective dispersion of these powders.…”

“…Due to their consistent manufacture and lower production costs than genuine leather, these materials have a strong market [4]. A backing substance, a base coat, a middle coat, and a top coat are the typical components of artificial leather [5]. Although the fashion industry strives to offer products at fair prices with its continuously changing trends and designs, most consumers need to be aware of this industry's significant contribution to global pollution due Disclaimer/Publisher's Note: The statements, opinions, and data contained in all publications are solely those of the individual author(s) and contributor(s) and not of MDPI and/or the editor(s).…”
