The Effect of Squeeze Pin Dimension and Operational Parameters on Material Homogenity of Aluminium High Pressure Die Cast Parts

Abstract: The present paper is an experimental study on the squeeze pin effect on the high pressure die cast aluminium parts, as a way of improvement of material homogenity on various and big wall thickness castings. Squeeze is used in high pressure die casting technology for optimizing homogenity of big wall thicknesses of die cast parts working as structural, mechanical and hydraulic components, made of different aluminium alloys such AlSi alloys. The objective of this research is to highlight the primary and secondar… Show more

“…As a secondary effect the appearance of a dark line in the squeezed area was identified. Its appearance and size is correlated with the squeeze parameters, especially with the squeeze time, and an increase of the squeeze entrance delay allows a bigger size of the dark line [11]. On X-ray a dark compact area can be seen, different as the rest of the material nearby, as illustrated on figures 1 and 2.…”

“…On X-ray a dark compact area can be seen, different as the rest of the material nearby, as illustrated on figures 1 and 2. It might be a macro segregation of the alloying elements as a secondary effect of the resulted pressures and temperatures [11].…”

“…The amount of SF also crucial to determine the casting temperatures of an alloy for semisolid processes in order to avoid cold fillings, segregations and other defects [12]. It is also fundamental to define the onset time of squeeze-pins in HPDC [13].…”
