The Effect of Texturing of the Surface of Concrete Substrate on the Pull-Off Strength of Epoxy Resin Coating

Abstract: This paper describes a study conducted to evaluate the effect of texturing of the surface of concrete substrate on the pull-off strength (fb) of epoxy resin coating. The paper investigates a total of seventeen types of textures: after grooving, imprinting, patch grabbing and brushing. The texture of the surface of the concrete substrate was prepared during the first 15 min after pouring fresh concrete into molds. The epoxy resin coating was laid after 28 days on hardened concrete substrates. To investigate the… Show more

“…In the last century, Allred and Rochow [16] proposed a simple approach based on electrostatic force to calculate electronegativity. The force of attrition between the nucleus and an electron from a bonded atom was described in Equation (1). In this study, r is the distance between an electron and a nucleus; e is the charge on the electron; and eZ e f f is the charge that is effective at the electron due to the nucleus and its surrounding electrons.…”

“…As a floor finish in industrial and public buildings, cementitious composites or epoxy resin coatings are commonly formed on concrete substrates. It was pointed out in [1] that epoxy resin coatings have a high mechanical and chemical resistance. However, due to their high price, cementitious composites (mainly cement mortar floors) are more often used as a floor finish.…”

“…The research shows that together with increasing the fraction of pores Φ and the number of pores within the interphase zone, the value f b decreases. In the case of substrate, the relation is the opposite-together with increasing the fraction of pores Φ and the number of pores in the near surface zone of the concrete substrate (NSZ-CS), the value f b increases [50][51][52][53][54]. The relations between the total fraction of pores and the pull-off adhesion f b are shown in Figure 12a.…”

“…According to statistics compiled in the United States and Japan, the demand for reinforced concrete structures has risen sharply. However, because of the intensive growth of the construction industry in large-area construction, (1) the reinforcement and repair of concrete structures have come to cover a wide range of areas, with different structures having distinct characteristics and needs. This is primarily due to the growth of the production and transportation industries as well as large areas being adopted for storage purposes.…”
